In December 2014, my agent called me. She’d just had a conversation with the folks at DC Comics, and they asked if I’d be interested in writing Superman.
SUPERMAN.
In the history of storytelling, only a handful of characters have been popular enough, powerful enough to kickstart their own genre. The Last Son of Krypton is certainly one of them.
Once I collected my wits, I told my agent, yes! A thousand times yes!
My first issue is #41, out June 24, 2015. The art team on the book is nothing short of legendary. Colorist Dean White has worked on books like Uncanny X-Force, The Ultimates, and Kick Ass. Inker Klaus Janson inked The Dark Knight Returns, one of my favorite graphic novels of all time. And penciller John Romita Jr… if you’ve read any superhero comics at all then you know who JRJR is. He’s one of our industry’s rockstars.
Our run on Superman is part of a larger tapestry of Super books that includes Action Comics by Greg Pak and Aaron Kuder, Batman/Superman by Greg Pak and Ardian Syaf, and Superman/Wonderwoman by Peter Tomasi and Doug Mahnke. DC asked us to put the Man of Steel through the ringer. We’re doing our best.
We’re making each book independent but interlocking. So you can follow a single series and enjoy it all by itself, or you can read all four and get the big picture.
