Taking their cue from Korea and Japan, Malaysian educators and parents begin using comics to teach children to read:
Some language buffs attribute comics to “language abuse” while parents feel comics contribute to the development of negative character in children.
It is not surprising if parents are cynical even over comics with characters like Doraemon, Naruto, Pokemon or Dragon Ball.
Thus when the National Translation Institute (ITNM) voiced out its intention to come up with comics to provide additional reading material in schools, it certainly raised eyebrows of many.
